Prof.U Soe-Htun

Prof.U Soe-Htun was a Professor and head of Marine Science Department of Mawlamyine University. After contribution of his academic knowledge and experience for 35 years in Ministry of Education, he has been currently engaging as a chairman of MSAM (Marine Science Association Myanmar) and taking leading role in research of Myanmar Marine Biodiversity with Fauna and Flora International (FFI). He also provided consultancy service to Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC) on project basis.
His proven record of academic strength and great contribution to the national and international community of marine science was well demonstrated with voluminous publications, approximately 33 research papers. He also guided as a supervisor or co-supervisor to twenty-three Ph.D candidates in marine science, especially in sea grass, sea weed and mangroves which are fundamentally considered as key habitats for marine fauna. Moreover, though out his life time engagement in study of coastal environment, his depth understanding on key biodiversity area and insight of Marine Science allow him to cast the net wider in the Environmental Impact Assessment and Marine Environmental Management. International practice and management related with marine science were achieved through training and workshops in Southeast Asia regions and South China Sea regions
